Thought I'd share my experience to warn you guys who are thinking of buying a used pontoon!
I've just had mine for less than a month but I've almost immediately started having power steering issues. It's been stiff, unresponsive, and sometimes just completely gives out so simply docking could take a lot of stress and effort! I did a test drive before the purchase but I guess it wasn't enough to reveal the issue. I also figured at first that it was just a common wear-and-tear thing with a used boat so I took it to a marine shop to get it checked.
The mechanic just called me and honestly, I couldn't stop pulling my hair out! Apparently, the power steering cable installed is completely the wrong type for this setup! Not only that, he said it was poorly installed, with exposed connector and damaged pins. He was shocked that it even worked as "well" as it did for this long. I'm beyond frustrated, I feel I've been sold a boat with a hidden, major defect!
I'm trying to contact the private seller but I don't know if I should pursue something more serious, or I should just move on with this lesson and just enjoy my boat after the repair. Really, what are my options here?
